Welcome to 1st Grade!
Welcome new friends to 1st Grade! What a pleasure it is to share this 1st grade experience with you!
Don't tell anyone, but I think this is the BEST grade because we learn the most interesting things and have the most fun while we learn. We will be on an adventure together and will be learning from one another. You all will have wonderful things to share from your own unique experiences. Everyone is smart in our class! You are probably wondering how I know-it's because we are all smart in different areas. Some of us are smart in different subjects like reading, math, science, or writing. Some are smart in the arts such as music, dance, or art. Some of us are brilliant in atheletics, in communications, or have terrific people skills. In whatever area, I hope you will feel free to share your gifts and talents with us. We are ALL learners, including me. So...buckle your seatbelts and get ready for a world of adventures in 1st Grade!

And they were called "JEWELS"
Each year I have the pleasure of adding to my treasure of "JEWELS". I call my students, my "JEWELS" because they are so unique and special, each one different and valuable in their own way. My JEWELS come in many shapes, sizes, and colors, and when combined, they are a great treasure! As each student begins to understand their worth and value in our classroom (through their individual contributions), our FAMILY finally becomes a complete unit!
Tell Me About Your JewelIn your Opening Newsletter I have asked that you write a letter to me about your 1st Grader. If you are like me you could write a whole book about your "Jewel". Please take a little time to tell me about your little one (likes and dislikes-anything you feel is important). See your opening newsletter for further details.

Theme Day at SchoolWe had a great time on Friday, February 3rd! Not only was it the 100th Day of School but it was also Theme Day in our class. Students dressed up in their Fictional Character Costumes or their favorite sports outfit. Our class was full of football, soccer, basketball players, princesses, Raggedy Ann, pirates, etc. Can you tell what fictional character I am? (Hint: A vet who talks to animals). We also enjoyed sharing our collection of 100 things, creating a math book for our Kindergarten Reading Buddies of 100 animals, and enjoying our 100th day snack, among other fun activities. Fun Things We Did in 1st GradeThere were so many fun things we did. Here are just a few...
